is loving and giving. So true.
Our son turns 10 today. As we speak he’s on his way to the St. Catharine’s Farmer’s Market. He and his dad have taken the day off and are food shopping. They’ll pick up bits and bites for tonight’s family birthday dinner, which will be topped up by an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins.
Much merriment will be had by all. Lots of gifts will be opened. Laughter will abound.
Our loving and giving son is staring his teenage years in the face and I don’t want to let him go. As he cruises down the highway with his dad in a coveted 1966 red convertible Mustang, I hope he lets out a yell with childish glee, pumps his fists in the air and lets the wind blow his long hair into knots. He is still innocent, free of the burdens society will soon place on him. As he grows his child’s voice will deepen, he’ll feel self-conscious of his silly laughter, he’ll be embarrassed by his parents, he won’t want to get down on the floor to play with his little sister and he’ll want to be left alone.
Now, he’s still all ours. Just a ten year old kid having fun celebrating his birthday and we wish him all the happiness in the world.
