An impulse buy at a dollar store netted Kman a slingshot. It’s the old fashioned y-shaped wooden handle with a rubber elastic and a faux-leather saddle-type thing into which you insert your rock or other projectile. You pull it back, aim it and then let it go. We love the simplicity of such a classic toy but of course the purchase didn’t keep son from getting the “don’t aim or shoot anything living or else we’ll move away and make you find another family” type of warning. We really didn’t need to tell him this of course since he knows better, the gentle soul, but boy does he love to shoot at things. After trying out a plastic peanut butter jar it was nixed in favour of a beer can because at least with the can the rocks didn’t bounce back and hit him in the face. Then the original ‘Y’ broke so we replaced it with a Y in a branch (pictured here) and then when that broke, T fashioned the rubber strap around an old shovel handle. When the rubber strap broke we gave up. Nevertheless, the beer can was replaced by several others over the weekend, and much to the delight of darling son he made contact regularly. Can’t find any reason to not love that he got to do that this weekend. What a boy. And that includes his dad, too.
