ladybugs

Three weeks ago we left four of them on a paper towel sitting on the edge of the bathtub. They were placed there gingerly lest we damage their tiny legs or wings as we righted them over and over again. The funny thing about lady bugs during the winter is just when you think they’re dead, you look again and the darned things have flipped themselves over or crawled two centimetres to the left.  When we returned this weekend the paper towel was on the floor and the four bugs had grown to about 12 and they were all over the bathroom.  I collected them and rested them gently on the back of the toilet, keeping the lid closed in case they slid into the water.  Every now and then one or two would be moving around, and the rest were where we left them.  Any bets that when we return in three weeks that they’ve moved on?  I hope so, since I often enter the bathroom in the middle of the night sans specs and I’m afraid I’ll step on them.  We’ll keep you posted.  If they survive, I’m sure we’ll have little tiny names for each and every one of them.
